The ABI EC Council believes data synchronization will be the launch pad for all future global industry initiatives – Electronic Product Code/Radio Frequency Identification (EPC/RFID) technology, collaborative commerce, anti-counterfeiting, and traceability. This initiative is as important as placing and scanning a Universal Product Code (U.P.C.) on a product. Several major retailers are adopting data synchronization and we expect more to do so; a group of suppliers and distributors are collaborating on data synchronization pilot programs to assess adoption, implementation, and benefits; results of the pilot will be shared with the industry so all can understand its impact and implications.
